We were fortunate to welcome Dr Yi-Kai Tea, a systematic ichthyologist and taxonomist and Curator of Fishes at the Australian Museum in Sydney, to our studio for a second time in November 2023 and paint another species he named and described for science.
Amanda's Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus amanda) is a newly identified species found off the coast of Far North Queensland in the Coral Sea and named after Amanda Hay, the respected Australian Museum ichthyologist. Dr Tea came to the trial painting class of this species and shared so many stories about it.
The discovery of this species was reported on ABC News.
