We welcomed Dr Yi-Kai Tea, a systematic ichthyologist and taxonomist and Curator of Fishes at the Australian Museum in Sydney, to our studio in July 2023 and paint a species he named for science: the Ruby Dragonet (Synchiropus sycorax).

The Ruby Dragonet is endemic to the Sulu Archipelago of the Philippines, in the heart of the Coral Triangle and its binomial name ‘sycorax’ came from the the Sycorax, a race of warriors from the Dr Who series! They actually look alike ;-)
