Please join us for an intimate and hands-on ceramics painting class where you will learn how to paint with underglazes (ie the “paints” applied under the glaze). The class will take place at our award-winning studio the Coconut Crab in Dulwich Hill, Sydney. During the class, Araceli will share all the tricks and techniques she has mastered over the 13 years + she has been making and painting ceramics.

The class will focus on the Weedy Seadragon (Phyllopteryx taeniolatus), a species of fish endemic to the Great Southern Reef, the interconnected seaweed forests fringing the southern half of Australia. They are found among the kelp so they can hunt for their favourite food: small mysid shrimp which they suck through their elongated mouthparts!

This class was first taught as an art & natural history masterclass, with marine ecologist Dr Claudia Santori in attendace. To see photos of the masterclass, learn more about the work Claudia does to restore the habitat crucial for Seadragons to thrive in, click here.

Participants will be given one of Casa Adams signature medium platters bisqued, with the seadragon already monoprinted and ready to be painted. All materials, as well as a delicious afternoon tea, are included. The platters will be glazed and fired in the studio and ready for collection approximately one week after. No previous experience needed!

Timings: 6pm to 9pm

Location: The class will take place at our award-winning studio the Coconut Crab in Dulwich Hill, Sydney. The studio address will be given to confirmed participants closer to the date

***If you’d like to paint the species on a dinner plate instead, there is an additional charge of $25. Just add this class to your cart and then add Dinner plate option for painting class to your cart as well.***
