Tropical Rock Lobster - Large Platter
Tropical Rock Lobster - Large Platter
This large platter depicts a Tropical Rock Lobster (Panulirus ornatus). The species is common across the Indo-West Pacific, where it is found in crevices, caves and overhangs on coral reefs. It is also a Mediterranean dweller, having arrived there as a Lessepsian migrant through the Suez Canal. A solitary species, it is nocturnal and non-aggressive.
The platter is handmade with Australian porcelain and hand painted with watercolour-like underglazes. As with all handmade objects, it may have some irregularities which contribute to its unique nature. It is fully functional and can be washed in the dishwasher, though I would recommend not putting in the microwave or oven as the abrupt changes in temperature might crack the clay.
The platter measures 37.5cm long, 29cm wide and about 2cm high and comes in its own recycled cardboard gift box. This is a listing for the product in the picture.
